For too long the role of the agricultural sector has been undervalued in our economy.
That’s why I co-ordinated the first ever Agri-Tech Industrial Strategy in 2013, and was delighted to deliver the keynote speech at the Norfolk Farming Conference recently on 21st Century farming post Brexit.
The Norfolk Farming Conference is an annual showcase of Norfolk’s leadership in modern agriculture, demonstrating how new technologies are transforming modern farming. This has created huge new opportunities for Norfolk’s farmers, scientists at the Norwich Research Park, agronomists at Morley in my constituency and engineers at the Hethel Engineering Centre, and many others, who are doing so much to drive this change.
By investing in the right skills in our area, I believe we could become for agricultural technology what Cambridge has become for bio-medicine, driving a new cycle of economic growth and creating jobs and prosperity across our region.
