2 women every week are killed by a current or former partner. 1 in every 3 women will experience domestic abuse in her life. Norfolk alone saw a 40% increase in domestic violence during the pandemic.
Domestic violence and abuse skyrocketed during the Covid lockdowns – with Norfolk alone seeing a 40% increase. Affecting both men and women, as well as people of all ages, 1 in 3 women and 1 in 6 men will experience domestic violence and abuse in their lifetime.
Just one case is one too many.
Having seen the effects of domestic abuse in my own family as a youngster, I know first-hand that it doesn’t just scar the immediate victims: it triggers a cycle of downstream PTSD, child trauma and emotional damage for many of their family and friends.
That’s why, throughout my time as an MP, I have always looked to stand up and speak out against this awful scourge in our society – supporting local charities, support groups and others, as well as raising the issue in Parliament with Ministers and officials.

As part of my ongoing efforts to speak out against the awful scourge that is domestic violence and abuse in our society, and support local charities and support groups, I am delighted to see HSBC are rolling out their ‘Safe Spaces’ programme at their Wymondham and Dereham branches.
I was pleased to continue my work to help try and tackle this scourge in our society this past Friday – hosting another virtual roundtable with the Lord-Lieutenant, High Sheriff, Police and Crime Commissioner and local Daisy Programme to review our work to date.
