Funding mechanism for Internal Drainage Boards

Inland flooding in Norfolk - and many other counties - has got significantly worse in the last 5 years.

That's why after the 2020 Christmas floods which many of us spent bailing out houses across Mid Norfolk I set up
- the Mid Norfolk Flood Partnership
- the Norfolk Flood Alliance with Norfolk County Council and General Lord Dannat
- the first Norfolk Flood Summit with Henry Cator and KMB
- the Attleborough Flood Prevention Group with local Cllr’s
And
- am now introducing my Flooding (Prevention and Liabilities) Bill:

The key bodies in flood prone areas are the Internal Drainage Boards (IDBs)

But their funding comes from local council precepts which cannot cope with the scale of funding now required.

That’s why my Bill localises flood funding from the Environment Agency to LFAs and IDBs.

Great to join Breckland Council's Leader Cllr Sam Chapman Allen, and Cllr Gordon Bambridge at the Special Interest Group – Funding mechanism for Internal Drainage Boards event last night.
